Maintaining and transforming gardens is what we do best.
We at GP Garden Services work closely with our customers to understand their requirements and make their vision and dreams a reality.
This project in Enfield took place over 2 phases spanning a few months of work in November, December, January & February.
Various different elements of the GP Garden Services team, fully transformed this large garden into a collection of different zones for the entire family to use.
The zones include:
- Softwood raised sleeper vegetable / fruit area
- Stylish composite decked BBQ and entertaining area complete with a pergola
- A mini orchard
- Rustic paved fire pit area with a backdrop of contemporary timber screening
- Meandering pathways to link different zones together
- Various paved seating areas to enjoy the sun as it moves during the day
- A hardwood sleeper bench / planter
- 300m2 Lawn surrounding the existing mature trees.

The new vegetable area at the rear of the garden has been positioned discreetly behind the garage. Directly in a natural sun trap, it will be the perfect spot for growing delicious salad, fruit and vegetables for years to come. The area was cleared, levelled, constructed then finished off with 20mm golden shingle to create walkways around planters. The area was finished with a backdrop of heavy duty trellis work, ready for those climbing fruit and vegetables.
Horizontal contemporary screening
A contemporary screen has been constructed in front of the wilderness zone at the end of the garden and a backdrop to the mini orchard and firepit areas. The screening also provides some privacy between the neighbouring gardens. Using good quality timber battens, sourced locally and spaced equally across the posts and framework behind, the screening gives this zone of the garden a calm and contemporary feel.
Timber pergola
The large timber pergola ‘growing’ through the deck has been handcrafted and made to measure onsite, to the specifications of the customer and our design.
It has galvanised climbing wire and timber trellis work hidden from view – this will allow the newly planted Honeysuckle, Clematis and Jasmine climbing plants to flourish which will hopefully, in turn, also help attract the insects and wildlife to the garden.
Composite deck BBQ / entertaining area
This area was originally part of the hardstanding area at the side of the house and previous garage building. The original wall was partially removed and then re-built to new specifications using the reclaimed bricks.
It has been designed to utilise the space and original ground works to integrate it into the main garden. Using slate grey coloured, solid composite decking, this area has now become the perfect area for a summer BBQ.
Composite decking is a man-made building product made up of a mix of wood fibres, plastics and can be sourced in a variety of colours and designs.
LED lighting
An important part of most garden designs is the use of lighting. The spaces we designed here are backlit to create ambiance during summer evenings and to bring the garden to life during the dark winter months.
This particular design allows the customer to switch the different zones on and off independently and remotely. Working together with a local fully qualified electrician we put a plan together to make this happen.
Paving and pathways
A large part of this project was to ensure there was a balance between paved areas, entertaining spaces, growing areas as well as green spaces.
Citron Limestone natural stone paving was used throughout the garden including the main paved area, seating area and pathways.
Reclaimed natural stone slabs that were uncovered and reclaimed during the clearance process were used for the fire pit area.
All paved areas and paths were designed with curves to give the garden and lawn area character and to create additional planting pockets throughout.
Lawn
The final stage of the project was to level, prepare and lay hard-wearing Essex turf to create a large lawn surrounding the wonderful existing and mature trees.
The garden has been left for the family to plant out to their own taste. Hopefully we will be back to help them with the on-going maintenance
